What You’ll Learn From This Course
The Companions went on reciting the Qur’an as they heard it from the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, while they were accompanying him. Al-Dhahabi mentioned in his book Tabaqat al-Qura’ that seven of the Companions were famous for reciting the Qur’an: Othman bin Affan, Ali bin Abi Talib, Ubay bin Ka’b, Zaid bin Thabit, and Abu Al-Darda.
And Ibn Masoud and Abu Musa Al-Ash’ari recited to Ubayy bin Ka’b a group of companions, including Abu Huraira, Ibn Abbas, and Abdullah bin Al-Sa’ib.
On the authority of these eminent Companions and their like bearers of the Qur’an, it was narrated with their readings by the followers, who set their eyes on the Ottoman Qur’an and adhered to what they received verbally from the Companions letter by letter, movement, and silence. Who are they:
With the passage of time, the number of campaigns of ten Qirat increased, and the ways of reading were multiplied until it reached about fifty readings, and this was about to be a door to some confusion on the tongues of the readers and among them was the glorified master, and among them was the imperfect who may be afflicted by forgetting.
This difference was a reason for a scientist to be abstract from the scholars of readings to contrast the many qiraat al Quran that was common in the Islamic world and to extract from them the correct and frequent readings for the nation so that the matter would not worsen and falsehood would become confused with the truth, and the reading of the Qur’an would become chaos. Reading and its Origins Ibn Mujahid undertook this great burden. After researching, balancing, and weighing seven imams of readings, he chose to make people follow their own path throughout the Islamic world.
